Another FREE EVENT by the 20th LTFF, tomorrow are 16:00 - this is not to be missed and will be followed by a discussion with Aytaç Arman on Turkish Cinema, 38 years after the march to Ankara.

We Hit the Road (Yollara Düştük) - 1977 was a year of street protests but also the year of a very unique demonstration of solidarity when directors, actors, writers and technicians came together to protest against the lack of rights of film workers and the unemployment that resulted from decline in production because of an oppressive censorship regime. Many of those who took part in a march from Istanbul to Ankara recall the journey and archive footage, photographs and headlines bring a landmark event in Turkish cinema vividly back to life.

Here is a taster of the documentary...

In collaboration with Imece Women's Centre, LTFF is screening 'Last Stop: Salvation' (Kurtuluş Son Durak) as a FREE EVENT, tomorrow at 12:00, at the Rio Cinema Dalston.

A dark comedy that's rose-tinted, provocative and inspirational. Psychologist Eylem moves into an apartment in the Istanbul neighbourhood of Kurtuluş after being abandoned by her fiancé two weeks before their wedding. Her new neighbours are just ordinary women in an ordinary neighbourhood: Vartanuş who has devoted her life to her bedridden father. Goncagül who realises that her mafioso lover will never marry her. Gülnur who's resigned herself to daily beatings as long as her husband doesn't touch the kids. Tülay who's shattered every time her mother gets beaten. Hairdresser Füsun who tends to see things on the bright side. They come together to lighten Eylem's mood and in doing so transform their own lives.
